Homemade Mexican Gorditas de Nata Recipe

  • 1 Large mixing bowl
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Rolling pin
  • 1 Round cookie cutter or a glass
  • 1 Non-stick griddle or large skillet
  • 1 Spatula

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup  nata  or heavy cream as a substitute
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup  sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter  for greasing the griddle

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the nata (or heavy cream), egg, vanilla extract, and sugar. Whisk until smooth and creamy.

  • Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

  • Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring gently with a spatula until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms. Avoid overmixing.

  • Shape the Gorditas: Dust a clean surface with flour. Roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness. Use a round cookie cutter (or a glass) to cut circles about 3 inches in diameter.

  • Preheat the Griddle: Heat a non-stick griddle or skillet over medium heat and lightly grease it with butter.

  • Cook the Gorditas: Place the dough circles onto the hot griddle. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side or until they’re golden brown and puffed up.
